About Nils
I'm Nils Vermeire. I have worked in and around large organisations for about thirty years, in business and in Dutch central government. Shell, NAM and Ziggo are part of that history, as are several roles in the public sector, where I currently work in the information domain.
Over those years I have run projects, advised, guided people and, above all, seen a great many meeting rooms from the inside. What stayed with me is how reasonable organisations look on paper, and how quickly that changes once you put people in them, with their histories, their interests and their mood on a Tuesday morning.

Alongside that work I spent years studying coaching, human behaviour and non-verbal communication. I am a NOBCO-accredited coach and registered with StiR. I keep training, partly because I have to and partly because I am curious about almost everything people do when rules, interests and reality don't quite line up. Within the public sector I also work as a peer coach with InterCoach, the national network of professional peer coaches in government.
Very little human behaviour in organisations still genuinely surprises me. That doesn't make me cynical; mostly it saves time. We don't have to spend the first few conversations establishing that yes, it really is as complicated as you think.
As far as I'm concerned there can be laughter in a conversation, even when the subject is serious. Only one of us has to live with the outcome, and that is you. That doesn't mean, by the way, that you can't teach me anything. I too discover new insights about myself daily, and the conversations I have as a coach nourish that.
